PARONELLA PARK AND MISSION BEACH

Ever wanted to step into a fairytale? Paronella Park comes pretty close! Jose Pareonella’s dream was to build a castle. Arriving in Australia from Catalonia, Spain in 1913, Jose worked in the sugar industry before eventually buying 5 hectares of land in Mena Creek. There, he and his wife ended up building a castle, picnic area, tennis courts, bridges, a tunnel and grounds – all by hand! They opened the park to the public in 1935 and hosted soirees, balls and picnic galas. Paronella Park was THE place to be! And now it is open to the public everyday, to showcase the incredible building feats and vision of Jose Paronella.

Tickets are valid for re-entry over a 2 year period and if you have the option, we highly recommend checking out the nightshow!

A further 40 minutes south, you’ll find the seaside village hamlets of Mission beach: South Mission Beach, Wongaling Beach, North Mission Beach and Bingil Bay. Nature takes centre stage at Mission Beach with its long unspoilt beaches, deserted islands and white-water rivers fringed by rainforest. There are no crowds at this seductive and easy going destination which is perfect for relaxation or discovering adrenalin pumping outdoor activities. Mission Beach also happens to be one of the best places to spot a Cassowary in the wild, so keep an eye out!

Make sure to chat to us about tours and activities available in the area and to purchase your Paronella Park pass.

KURANDA SCENIC RAILWAY + SKYRAIL COMBO

Visit the bohemian tourist village of Kuranda in style. Hop on board the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway and take in the stunning sights, smells and sounds of the heritage listed wet tropics. Historical commentary is played throughout your winding journey to the top and you’ll find yourself amazed at the engineering feats accomplished all the way back in the 1800s! Stop at Barron Gorge to admire the powerful Barron River as it cascades down in waterfalls before jumping back on to reach Kuranda village where you’ll find artist galleries, food markets and tourist activities such as the Butterfly sanctuary. Once you’ve enjoyed the town it’s time to head back down the Dividing Range…this time in a Skyrail gondola hanging above the tree canopies. The view is breath-taking and it’s not hard to see how the rainforest and landscape inspired Director James Cameron’s vision for Avatar. Hop off to take a stroll along a rainforest boardwalk before enjoying the rest of your trip down.

Multiple add-ons are available for both the railway and Skyrail (e.g. Gold Class rail carriages or Diamond glass floor gondolas).

The railway takes approximately 90 mins each way and the Skyrail takes approximately 40-60 minutes. Both can be taken one-way up or down or you can choose to stick to just one mode of transport. Self-drive is also an option.

For those with private vehicles, a transfer option exists to allow you to return to your vehicle should you choose the railway/Skyrail combo option. We recommend parking at the Skyrail terminal (only 10 minutes from Trinity Beach), and then using the transfer to take you to Freshwater Station where you take the scenic railway up the mountain. On your way down, enjoy the Skyrail and jump off with your car parked and ready to go!
